Working Toward a Stable Home Base for Children

Children raised in strong families show the advantages of stability and emotional support in their early years and throughout adolescence. FCS offers a variety of services designed to support and strengthen families throughout Central Maryland.

Healthy Family Programming

The arrival of a new baby is a joyous event, but can also be a stressful time, especially for first time parents who must adjust to changes in their lifestyles and relationships. Healthy Families Howard County program helps first time parents become comfortable in their new roles. Support services are customized to meet each family’s individual needs and include home visits from FCS Family Support Specialists who provide age appropriate curriculum and referrals to community resources as needed to families with the goal of strengthening the parent and child relationship.

Family Stability Programming

The Family Stability team works in collaboration with United Way and Howard County Government to prevent homelessness by providing services to lift families out of crisis and help them move towards self-sufficiency. Family Stability Case Managers advocate for families who are at risk of losing permanent housing and develop a plan to maintain long term stable housing. Case Managers also work with school personnel to reduce student mobility and provide opportunities for children to continue to thrive in their current school. FCS provides limited financial assistance to help families avoid eviction. Families must have at least one school aged child and meet income guidelines in order to qualify for this program.
