Angelica Christian joined the Family and Children’s Services (FCS) team in June 2019 as an Assessment Specialist. Housed at the Howard County Department of Social Services, Angelica provides intake services and screens clients for enrollment in FCS programs. Her 5+ year career has been spent working with low-income and homeless individuals and families through non-profit organizations like the Youth Leadership Foundation in our Nation’s capital and Laurel Advocacy & Referral Services, Inc. in Laurel, MD. Raised by Puerto Rican parents and driven by the desire to master the Spanish language, Angelica obtained a certificate in Spanish Studies from the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain. This allowed her to strengthen her ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in Spanish. A native Marylander, she holds a B.A. in Psychology and Family Science from the University of Maryland, College Park and is a current M.S. candidate in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at the Johns Hopkins University. Angelica’s work is grounded in a person-centered and trauma-informed approach. She emphasizes the development of a collaborative and authentic professional relationship with her clients and supports her clients in addressing the challenges they face in maintaining financial and mental wellness. Outside of the office, Angelica visits with patients in hospice care, offering them emotional support and companionship. She also enjoys spending time with her family and Miniature Australian Shepherd, Nala, as well as creating unique Do-It-Yourself crafts.
