Cecilia M Parker PMHNP-BC
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Cecilia M. Parker, PMHNP-BC received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Coppin State University, Baltimore, MD. As a RN, she has worked in acute care (emergency department and telemetry units), community health, primary care and case management, as well as hospice. These various settings provided the opportunity to work with diverse backgrounds at various stages of health. Regardless of health status or disease state, the tremendous impact of mental health on overall health status was blatantly obvious. Therefore, after 10 years of service as an RN, Mrs. Parker returned to school receiving a Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. This was very important to her as she understands that it is almost impossible to achieve full medical health without addressing mental health issues. Likewise, when mental health issues are effectively treated, medical healing and recovery can occur. In addition, Mrs. Parker considers education a vital component of quality mental health care. Not only does it reduce the stigma associated with mental illness, it enable clients to better participate in health care decisions and make lifestyle choices consistent with health goals. To that end, Mrs. Parker strives to provide patient centered care, forming healing partnerships with those that she serves.
