Meet Maria, an 80 year old client, resides with her son and daughter-in-law. Maria was diagnosed with dementia eight years ago, while her husband was still alive. Her husband’s wish was that Maria would never be placed in a nursing home unless it was impossible to care for her at home. Upon Maria’s husband’s death six years ago, Maria moved into her son and daughter-in-laws home. That is when she began attending West End Place Medical Adult Daycare.

Because of West End Place, Maria has been able to remain in her son’s home over the past six years. She attends West End five days per week while her son and daughter-in-law work. Maria also attends the one Saturday per month that West End is open to allow time for her family to complete necessary errands.

At West End, Maria receives breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack, attends outings that include lunch, shopping and sightseeing and participates in daily exercise, group activities and discussions. West End Place provides transportation each way for Maria and enables her family to continue their daily routines. Because Maria attends an Adult Day Care program, the wish that she remain at home and age-in-place with her family is a reality.
